History: Iorveth's Witcher Wiki page:
http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/IorvethCanon Point: During Chapter 1 when Geralt and Triss meet Iorveth in the forest with the Scoia'tael. During the war with the Nilfgaard.
Personality:
Iorveth is a bitter and rather violent elf who has seen his fair share of suffering and violence within his own people. He leads a band of elf and dwarf bandits known as the Scoia'tael. He has seen his forest homeland destroyed and taken by the humans of Nilfgaard and beyond. The elves call them dh'oine. Humans in the elven tongue. Due to his bitterness towards humans, Iorveth bares a chip on his shoulder for anything remotely human. Whether it be, the language or the people themselves.
Iorveth does bare strong compassion towards his own kin and other non-humans. He often helps those in need of being freed from their human oppressors. Being a strong leader, this makes Iorveth a loyal and honourable elf to those whom he meets. Others would soon despise him as being a cold-blooded killer. He has killed many humans in his lifetime as he hasn't seen any other way of showing his anger towards those who kill his kin. Humans within his world are often cruel and greedy, making Iorveth reluctant to believe any human who wishes no harm to him or his kin.
Living within the confines of the forest, has made Iorveth somewhat of a loner. He prefers the calm environment of the forest and the animals within it. He doesn't tend to like being in any human city or dwell anywhere near a settlement. Being a loner does often distance him from other at times, except his Scoia'tael soldiers who accompany him around most of the time. He does make friends with non-humans especially if they wish to aid his cause in the fight against the Nilfgaardians.
Being who he is makes Iorveth a tough person on the outside but he can be compassionate when he wants to. He has feelings for Saskia, a human who wishes to aid the Scoia'tael and other non-humans fight the oppression and hatred towards them. It is rare for him to find compassion in a non-human. But, it can happen.
Iorveth may look intimidating with the bandanna he wears around his right eye. Being injured by a human, he never forgave that individual who took away his sight in that eye. He relies heavily on the use of his left eye and is rather sensitive around anyone who might ask how he lost his eye. He can become angry very quickly and although patient, can retaliate and become erratic once his temper flares. He has a deep-rooted hate towards humans so this may not help relations between the two races since war has caused him to become very bitter over the years.
Skills and Abilities:
Iorveth is keen with the bow and can loose his arrows with deadly accuracy. Never missing a target, he can shoot many men in rapid succession. He can also use the elven blade with skill and deadly efficiency. A battle-hardened warrior and bandit leader, he can wield his double-handed elven sword like a scythe, cutting down his enemies swiftly.
He is a good leader. Being leader of the Scoia'tael. He is feared by others but respected by his own kind. He can give orders and set tasks to his men by using his keen eyesight above the trees. He can track animal prints on the ground using his elven heritage. It comes in useful when hunting his prey for food or sport.
Iorveth can also brew potions and poisons using herbs in the forest. He uses the poison on the tips of his arrows. The herbs can be used to craft poultices and medicines. Vital for living within the forest and using his wits to survive. He is a good swimmer as he has had practice while living within the forest and near waterfalls. A good athlete too, he can out-run most humans and can climb trees as well as any elf can.
First Person Sample:Note to the Scoia'tael within the forest:
I am camping out tonight within the deepest part of the forest. Rumours of a fire drake has spread through the encampment. I do not know if this is indeed, witchcraft or that the humans have unleashed something terrible. Have no fear though. I will not let these dh'oine frighten us off another time. If they think they can set a fire drake upon our peaceful forest, they are wrong. We will kill the drake and then go after whoever set the beast upon us.
There are supplies within the cave I am staying at. If you take the path with the long vines, you will find me. I have sword, bows and armour we can all use if the drake does attack. Poisons and medicines are also here. Everything a Scoia'tael needs for battle I have at my disposal. Make haste as I fear we do not have time until the beast attacks. Once you reach the cave, you will find me at the deepest tunnel. I will welcome any allies which you may find on your way.
May it be more Scoia'tael or any dwarf who might wish to join our cause against the dh'oine. They will pay dearly for what they have done to us.
Stay safe and stay sharp. I will meet you all tonight in the cave just below the waterfall. You know where to find me. Midnight. That is the hour in which you will find me. Once you have all read this note, burn it. I cannot afford to have this note find it's way into the hands of our enemies.
Go in peace.
Iorveth.
Third Person Sample:
Iorveth waved to halt his Scoia'tael unit. They were going to attack the humans who were just on the outskirts of their forest. They were hired thugs sent from the nearby town of Flotsam. A dump that was. Looking around, Iorveth signalled some of his elven archers to scout ahead and see if they could pick some easy targets before letting any arrows loose. Iorveth was good at guerrilla warfare and stealth was the key for him. His highly trained Scoia'tael lived out in the woods, training all their lives to defend their homes. What was rightfully theirs. Something the humans took from them many years ago.
Iorveth waved the nearest group of archers to flank the scouts ahead. They would taken them from the sides and from behind. That way, the humans wouldn't know which way the arrows were raining down from. As well, as a tactician, Iorveth was a skillful commander. Hardened by war and the war with the Nilfgaard, he was a toughened elven bandit as any. Ruthless. Murder had come so easy to him these past years. He was not ashamed for the price of freedom though.
An elf scout whistled like a thrust, signalling that one of the human soldiers was gaining towards their position. High above in the trees, Iorveth and his skillful assassins waited. Bows knocked and ready, he was just to give the word and all hell would be let loose on the humans below. The thuggish soldiers had swords and armour but a well aimed Scoia'tael arrow could pierce through leather and sometimes steel. Iorveth could see the thuggish soldier coming towards them, looking around, his sword drawn. Iorveth nodded to a nearby archer in the tree as he loosed his arrow and shot the man straight between the eyes. He made not a sound as he fell into the undergrowth dead.
Another of his unit walked into the frey as he then saw the dead man. He let out a warning to his men that there had been an ambush. Another arrow was loosed just above the yelling man as he too, dropped into the mud. An arrow wedged between his collarbone and his neck. Iorveth's archers were the best. Fuelled by hatred towards humans and a yearning for their home to be reclaimed from these Dh'oine filth. Dh'oine. The elven word for human. Something all Scoia'tael despised more than anything.
Iorveth could see the rest of the soldiers coming running towards their fallen comrades. Yelling and drawing their swords, they could not see their silent assassins above in the tree tops. Iorveth whistled like a barn owl as all of his archers loosed their arrows in unison. All soldiers fell to the floor with arrows lodged in their thick skulls or protruding through their crude armour vests.
It had been a victory well earned as Iorveth's men had defeated the human scouting party come from Flotsam. It was a town ripe with filth. Crime was rife and corruption made it a cess pit for humans to dwell. Unfortunately, some dwarves and elves dwelled their in the corners, outcasts to the humans who lives there. They were treated as second class citizens, slaves almost. Dwarves trying to get along doing business as traders and merchants. Elves who had no where else to go, try to make a living somehow.
Iorveth wanted to set those dwarves and elves free from their human oppressors. The Scoia'tael exist for that single purpose. Freedom.
